10 Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Private Label Cosmetics Manufacturer
Ten practical questions about samples, certification, packaging and terms that separate a reliable private label cosmetics partner from a risky one.

Choosing a private label manufacturer shapes your product quality, your launch schedule and your brand reputation. Yet the price question usually comes first, and everything else last. These ten questions reverse that order. Ask them in writing, keep the answers, and compare suppliers on the same grid.
1. Questions About Product Development (1-3)
One: can you develop a formula to our brief, or do you build on stock formulas? Two: what does your sampling process look like, and how long does a sample take? Three: how do you handle colors and finishes on the case? On the second question, a concrete number beats a promise. In our factory samples are ready in 14 days. A supplier who cannot name a sample window is telling you something.
2. Questions About Certification and Compliance (4-6)
Four: which certifications can you attain for our order, such as GMP and ISO 22716? Five: what is left out of your formulas? Six: how familiar are you with the regulations of our destination market? Listen for precision in the replies. Our factory can attain GMP certification and ISO 22716 environmental management certification, and we operate in accordance with International Organization for Standardization standards.
Formula boundaries matter too. Every formula we produce is paraben free, and you should expect the same clarity about any ingredient your market restricts. Because we export color cosmetics, we stay familiar with EU and US packaging and regulatory requirements, which is what importers need from a partner.
3. Questions About Packaging and Artwork (7-8)
Seven: who prints the packaging, and which case materials are available? Eight: can you produce a die-cut for our artwork, or design it for us? Packaging is where private label projects quietly grow in complexity. Cases can be made from resin, PP, PS, ABS, AS or PETG. Our answer to the artwork question is both: we can provide a die-cut of the artwork or make the design for you, with support for color box printing and traceability codes when your channel requires them.
4. Questions About Commercial Terms (9-10)
Nine: what is the minimum order quantity for this exact item? Ten: what are the payment terms, and when will the goods ship? Expect MOQ to depend on the item: across our lip gloss lines it is 5,000 pcs or 10,000 pcs. For terms, we work with T/T, L/C or PayPal, and production ships in 45-55 days after payment from Shanghai or Ningbo port. Packing protects the goods on the way: inner boxes inside the outer carton keep products undamaged.
5. Turning Answers Into a Decision
Put the ten answers side by side. The supplier who answers in specifics is the one to shortlist. Patience matters too. A buyer in Manhattan noted:
After making inquiries for many times, they are still very patient in making quotations, and the prices and services are very suitable. — Howard, Manhattan, NY
6. Test the Answers
Before committing, test the answers in practice: request a sample with your artwork attached — it lets both sides check the fit before any commitment, and shows how the supplier handles the file, the questions and the small changes.
